Fast charging and smart energy storage for SkiStar in Sweden

We recently delivered a year-round energy solution for a mountain resort and snow production facility to SkiStar in Sweden —combining a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a DC fast charger.

Winter: When Power Demand Peaks

In winter, energy consumption reaches new highs. High-pressure water pumps for snowmaking, charging of piste machines, and electric snowmobiles often happen simultaneously. These loads can exceed the capacity of the local grid—leading to costly grid upgrades or, in the worst case, operational downtime.

Summer: Generating Value from Grid Services

Once the snow melts and demand drops, the battery doesn’t just sit there. Instead, it shifts roles and starts earning income by participating in grid balancing services, like FCR (Frequency Containment Reserve) and FFR (Fast Frequency Reserve).

The battery system steps in during short-term power spikes, enabling the resort to:

  • Support grid stability
  • Create passive income
  • Turn seasonal downtime into financial value

This is a great example of how smart energy storage can provide flexibility, reliability, and cost savings—year-round.

Thank you to SkiStar for trusting us with this important upgrade to their facilities—and for allowing us to use their project video recordings.

The video was recorded last autumn during the system’s test period. Today, the solution is fully

2MW of Power – Smarter than ever

What makes our project with establishing BESS on our facility so unique?

It’s more than solar panels and a battery – it`s powered intelligence.

Our 2MW Battery Energy Storage System is:
✅ Integrated directly with rooftop solar
✅ Designed to store excess energy and optimize consumption
✅ Able to feed renewable energy to the Nordics, supporting grid stability

We’re combining on-site generation, smart storage, and regional energy sharing to make every kilowatt count.

We recently got the batteries from CATL and inverters from WSTECH wstechin place.

This is real-world energy transformation — happening right now at PSW.

EPC partnership in Austria

We’re excited to announce the signing of another Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for an EPC partnership — this time with ZAUNERGROUP in Austria.

“This marks another step in strengthening our footprint in the European market, as we continue to grow and expand our network of partnerships across Europe,” says Stian Landøy-Manger Ramm Landøy-Manger, our Business Development Manager for Energy Storage Solutions.

Partnership with Finnish EPC contractor

We are pleased to announce that PSW Power & Automation and SÄHKÖRYHMÄ MUUKKA OY from Finland has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for an EPC partnership.

This strategic collaboration will strengthen our position as a trusted EPC contractor and expand our reach in the European market.

A key step towards a more flexible power system

“This battery facility is a clear example of a solution that contributes to the energy transition and the region’s vision of a robust and fossil-free energy-positive county. With new markets and business models for energy storage, battery solutions like the one we see here today can contribute locally and regionally to easing the burden on the electricity grid and ensuring electricity is available when it is most needed,” says County Governor Brittis Benzler, who attended the inauguration.

Last week, Jönköping Energi inaugurated its first large-scale battery at the combined heat and power plant in Torsvik. The battery will play a crucial role in balancing the electricity grid, increasing preparedness during power outages, and supporting the green transition.

Sweden is in the midst of rapid electrification, where the expansion of renewable electricity production needs the support of new solutions for storage and flexibility. Infrastructure for electricity transmission takes time to build, but the need for capacity is already here. Batteries like the one in Torsvik are vital pieces of the puzzle in the transition to a robust and efficient power system.

“It is with pride that I stand here today – on-site at our power plant in Torsvik – to inaugurate something that is both large in scale and even greater in significance. This is the beginning of something new. We are not only building technology, we are also building competence. Our goal is to create, together with our customers, a strong portfolio of flexible resources that contribute to a more sustainable and robust electricity system,” says Fridolf Eskilsson, CEO of Jönköping Energi.

We are proud to deliver a 10 MW/MWh battery system to Jönköping Energi. As the integration of renewable energy increases, such storage systems become crucial for the stability and resilience of the electricity grid. A big thank you to Jönköping Energi for a great collaboration and for the trust placed in us in this important project.
