A key step towards a more flexible power system

“This battery facility is a clear example of a solution that contributes to the energy transition and the region’s vision of a robust and fossil-free energy-positive county. With new markets and business models for energy storage, battery solutions like the one we see here today can contribute locally and regionally to easing the burden on the electricity grid and ensuring electricity is available when it is most needed,” says County Governor Brittis Benzler, who attended the inauguration.

Last week, Jönköping Energi inaugurated its first large-scale battery at the combined heat and power plant in Torsvik. The battery will play a crucial role in balancing the electricity grid, increasing preparedness during power outages, and supporting the green transition.

Sweden is in the midst of rapid electrification, where the expansion of renewable electricity production needs the support of new solutions for storage and flexibility. Infrastructure for electricity transmission takes time to build, but the need for capacity is already here. Batteries like the one in Torsvik are vital pieces of the puzzle in the transition to a robust and efficient power system.

“It is with pride that I stand here today – on-site at our power plant in Torsvik – to inaugurate something that is both large in scale and even greater in significance. This is the beginning of something new. We are not only building technology, we are also building competence. Our goal is to create, together with our customers, a strong portfolio of flexible resources that contribute to a more sustainable and robust electricity system,” says Fridolf Eskilsson, CEO of Jönköping Energi.

We are proud to deliver a 10 MW/MWh battery system to Jönköping Energi. As the integration of renewable energy increases, such storage systems become crucial for the stability and resilience of the electricity grid. A big thank you to Jönköping Energi for a great collaboration and for the trust placed in us in this important project.

Installing 2MW Battery Energy Storage System at our facility

We’re proud to announce construction phase milestone for our 2MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) integrated with rooftop solar panels at our facility in Ågotnes.

This project is a significant step toward our commitment to renewable energy and smart energy management. The system not only enhances our energy resilience — it also contributes green power to the Nordic energy grid.

Cleaner, smarter, and locally produced energy — made possible by innovation and dedication.

Stay tuned as we share more about the technology, integration process, and the impact it’s making. ⚡

New contract for Battery Energy Storage System

We have signed a contract for the delivery of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a total capacity of 11.3MWh. The solution will be used in the Nordic balancing market as well as in emerging local flexibility markets for energy storage. The company has also secured a 5-year maintenance contract for the system.

The contract will be part of an expansion of an existing project, increasing the system’s total energy capacity to 22,6 MWh.

The solution includes transformers, inverters and battery storage. At the core of the system is an advanced energy control system, offering market-leading dynamic regulation with compatibility for multi-market models within the Nordic balancing marked.

“This contract is of great importance and confirms our position as one of the leading players in the Nordic energy transition. Existing energy storage sites operating in the balancing market demand more battery capacity to increase flexibility and profitability. We expect to see more of these opportunities going forward”, says Eirik Sørensen, Managing Director of PSW Power & Automation AS.

The project will start immediately, and delivery will take place in Q4-2025.

Grid-scale battery system to boost Jönköping`s energy stability and efficiency.

Boosting Jönköping`s energy stability and efficiency with a 10MWh grid-scale battery storage system including our Energy control system.

The facility is set to enhance the stability and energy efficiency of the regional power grid.

Located at the Torsvik Heat & Power plant in Jönköping, which supplies 90% of the city’s heat and 30% of its electricity, the battery system will be a critical asset for maintaining grid stability. The plant collectively offering a total capacity of 10MW/10MWh. This system will support the power grid by providing essential stability services, particularly during significant imbalances between production and consumption in Sweden.

Our scope of supply encompasses the design, commissioning, handover, and maintenance of switchgear, transformers, inverters, batteries, and an energy management system, including integration with renewable energy from solar cells.

The 10 MWh system is intended for use in Primary Reserve Power (FCR), Fast Frequency Response (FFR), and off-grid operation during grid failures.

As the integration of renewable energy sources into the grid continues to grow, grid-scale battery storage systems are becoming increasingly essential. They play a key role in stabilizing the electrical grid by balancing supply and demand, managing the fluctuations inherent in renewable energy generation, and providing backup power during peak demand or grid outages.

We thank Jönköping Energi for trusting us with this vital project and for an excellent collaboration.

Expanding into Baltic Energy storage market

PSW Power & Automation has signed a contract with a Baltic energy company for a battery storage system. The solution will be integrated into an existing solar park in a co-location setup.

PSW delivery consists of a technology package, including transformer, inverters and battery storage with a total capacity of 2,8MWh. At the core of this system is PSW`s unique energy control technology, offering market-leading dynamic regulation of grid, battery, and solar interactions. This advanced system will not only optimize energy flow but also support Frequency Containment Reserves (FCR) and Fast Frequency Reserve (FFR) services.

As part of an extended scope PSW will provide Operation & Maintenance (O&M) that will ensure optimal performance and availability of the battery system when put in operation in Q1 2025.

Eirik Sørensen, General manager in PSW Powern & Automation

“Our battery storage technology leverages advanced algorithms to dynamically regulate energy flow, adapting to real-time changes in demand and supply. This cutting-edge technology aligns with our mission to create a more resilient and efficient energy infrastructure for the future, says Eirik Sørensen”, Managing Director in PSW Power & Automation.

The Baltic region’s growing investments in battery energy storage systems (BESS) underscore a broader strategy to enhance energy security and stability. By integrating renewable energy infrastructure with European markets, this initiative fosters sustainable growth and strengthens the region’s energy independence.

This partnership marks another milestone in PSW Power & Automation’s journey to deliver innovative energy solutions globally.
