Norwegian technology enabling the next generation of electrification

PSW Power & Automation and Prelect partner to bring Norwegian energy innovation to international markets. Norway has become one of the world’s most advanced markets for electrification. The next opportunity is not simply building more infrastructure. It is exporting the technology and expertise needed to operate that infrastructure more intelligently. That is the opportunity PSW and Prelect are pursuing through a new strategic partnership.

By combining PSW’s expertise in power systems, automation and industrial control with Prelect’s AI-powered software platform, the companies will deliver digital energy solutions that help industrial customers optimize energy usage, improve operational efficiency and unlock greater value from their energy assets.

The partnership is already being rolled out across approximately 40 sites, creating a strong foundation for scaling proven technology and customer value in Norway and beyond.

“The global demand for electrification is growing rapidly, but customers need more than infrastructure. They need solutions that help them operate energy assets smarter, improve performance and create long-term value. Together with Prelect, we can bring exactly that combination to the market,” says Jens Hjorteset, Director Business Development at PSW.

As industries, ports and energy operators continue to invest in batteries, charging infrastructure, shore power and other energy assets, the ability to monitor, optimize and manage those assets is becoming increasingly important.

“Norway has developed world-leading expertise in electrification, energy systems and industrial operations. We believe that this knowledge has significant international potential. Together with PSW, we can help customers get more value from their energy infrastructure while contributing to the next chapter of Norwegian technology exports,” says Stian Hovda Bergersen, CRO at Prelect.

The ambition is clear: combine proven Norwegian industrial expertise with modern software and AI to help customers accelerate electrification while improving efficiency, flexibility and profitability.

Big step forward for hybrid energy assets in Sweden

We are proud to have contributed as a supplier to Alight’s newly operational BESS project in Katrineholm — a strong example of how solar and storage together unlock real system value.

The 2 MW / 2 MWh battery, integrated within a 6 MWp solar park, is now fully operational and prequalified to deliver ancillary services to Svenska kraftnät. By sharing grid connection and infrastructure, this hybrid setup maximises efficiency while enabling fast-response grid balancing.

Solutions like this are key to:

  • Strengthening grid stability
  • Increasing flexibility in renewable power systems
  • Accelerating the energy transition

Projects like Katrineholm highlight the growing role of hybrid assets in building a more resilient and sustainable energy system.

Great collaboration with Alight and partners — we’re excited to keep building the future of energy together.

Fast charging and smart energy storage for SkiStar in Sweden

We recently delivered a year-round energy solution for a mountain resort and snow production facility to SkiStar in Sweden —combining a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a DC fast charger.

Winter: When Power Demand Peaks

In winter, energy consumption reaches new highs. High-pressure water pumps for snowmaking, charging of piste machines, and electric snowmobiles often happen simultaneously. These loads can exceed the capacity of the local grid—leading to costly grid upgrades or, in the worst case, operational downtime.

Summer: Generating Value from Grid Services

Once the snow melts and demand drops, the battery doesn’t just sit there. Instead, it shifts roles and starts earning income by participating in grid balancing services, like FCR (Frequency Containment Reserve) and FFR (Fast Frequency Reserve).

The battery system steps in during short-term power spikes, enabling the resort to:

  • Support grid stability
  • Create passive income
  • Turn seasonal downtime into financial value

This is a great example of how smart energy storage can provide flexibility, reliability, and cost savings—year-round.

Thank you to SkiStar for trusting us with this important upgrade to their facilities—and for allowing us to use their project video recordings.

The video was recorded last autumn during the system’s test period. Today, the solution is fully
